Used To
'Used To' is used to express an action or habit that was common in the Past but now that action or habit no longer takes place. When
we speak 'used to', the final D in the verb 'used' is pronounced like a 'T' and since the next word 'To' also begins with the 'T', it appears that
there is only one 'T' and it sounds like 'Use to'.
भूतकाल की किसी आदत या हमेशा होने वाली क्रिया (करता था) को व्यक्त करने के लिये 'Used To' का प्रयोग किया जाता है ।
जब हम 'Used to' बोलते हैं तो वर्ब का आखिरी अक्षर 'D' का उच्चारण 'T' की तरह होता है और चूंकि अगला शब्द भी 'T' से शुरू होता है तो लगता है की एक ही 'T' है अरे इसका उच्चारण 'Use to' जैसा लगता है ।

| मैं पहले धूम्रपान किया करता था । | I used to smoke before. |
| मैं ठीक 9 बजे सो जाया करता था । | I used to sleep at sharp 9 o'clock. |
| वह रुपये उधार लिया करता था और लौटाना भूल जाता था । | He used to borrow money from me and forget to pay it back. |
| वह शाम को सैर करने जाया करती थी । | She used to go for an evening walk. |
| वह हर दूसरे दिन रात का खाना छोड़ दिया करता था । | He used to skip dinner on alternate day. |
| उसकी एक झलक पाने के लिये वह उसके घर रोज जाता था । | He used to go her home to have her glimpse. |
| मुझे स्कूल में विज्ञान बहुत अच्छा लगता था । | I used to love science at school. |
| वह मीलों सैर किया करता था । | He used to walk for miles. |
| वे अपने जन्मदिवस पर नाचते और गाते थे । | They used to sing and dance on their birthday. |
| शान्तुर हर हफ़्ते आइसक्रीम लाया करता था । | Shantur used to bring ice cream every week. |
| गीता सर्दियोंं के मौसम में भी आइसक्रीम खाया करती थी । | Geeta used to take ice cream daily during winter season also. |
| वह क्लास से भाग जाया करता था । | He used to bunk the classes. |
| मैं वांछित खिलौना ना मिलने पर रोया करता था । | I used to weep on not getting the desired toy. |
| मेरे पिताजी रोज रात को पूजा किया करते थे । | My father used to do pujaa daily at night. |
| मेरी मांहमें पढ़ने के लिये बिठाया करती थी । | My mother used to make us sit for study. |
| हम भाई छोटी छोटी बातों पर आपस में लड़ा करते थे । | We brothers used to fight among ourselves for trifles. |
| हमारी बहन हमारी शिकायत किया करती थी । | Our sister used to complain about us. |
| कभी कभी वह लम्बी चौड़ी हांका करती थी और झूठ बोलती थी । | Sometimes she used to exaggerate and tell lie. |
| तब हम उसे धमकाया करते थे । | Then we used to threaten her. |
| बदले में वह भी हमें धमकाया करती थी की वह हमारे हाथों पर राखी नही बाँधेगी । | In return she also used to threaten us that she would not tie rakhi on our hands. |
| जब मैं जवान था, म़ैं हर गर्मियों में अपनी दादी से मिलने जाया करता था । | When I was young, I used to visit my grandmother every summer. |

'Did/Did not' can be used in the negative and interrogative sentences of 'Used to'. After the use of 'Did', 'Use to' is written
in place of 'Used To'. 'Used To' is used to express an habit of past but for expressing an habit of present time we cannot use 'Use To'.
'Used To' के प्रश्नवाचक और नकारतमक वाक्यों में 'Did/Did not' का भी प्रयोग किया जा सकता है । 'Did' के प्रयोग के बाद 'Used to' की जगह 'Use To' लिखा जाता है ।
भूतकाल की आदत व्यक्त करने के लिये 'Used to' का प्रयोग होता है परंतु वर्तमान समय की आदत को व्यक्त करने के लिये हम 'Use to' का प्रयोग नही कर सकते ।

| वह सच नही बोला करता था । | He used not to speak truth. |
| वह सच नही बोला करता था । | He did not use to speak truth. |
| वह बस में सफर नही किया करती थी । | She used not to travel in bus. |
| वह बस में सफर नही किया करती थी । | She did not use to travel in bus. |
| हम इतने लगातार लंच या डिनर के लिये बाहर नही जाया करते थे । | We used not to go out for lunch or dinner so frequently. |
| हम इतने लगातार लंच या डिनर के लिये बाहर नही जाया करते थे । | We did not use to go out for lunch or dinner so frequently. |
| वह अपने आपको अपने कमरे में बंद कर घंटो आराम नही किया करती थी । | She used not to shut herself in her room and rest for hours. |
| वह अपने आपको अपने कमरे में बंद कर घंटो आराम नही किया करती थी । | She did not use to shut herself in her room and rest for hours. |
| क्या हम हर रविवार को मंदिर जाया करते थे? | Used we to go to temple on every Sunday? |
| क्या हम हर रविवार को मंदिर जाया करते थे? | Did we use to go to temple on every Sunday? |
| क्या वह ऑफिस में कैरम नही खेला करता था ? | Used he not to play carom at office? |
| क्या वह ऑफिस में कैरम नही खेला करता था ? | Did he not use to play carom at office? |
'Be Used To' is used to express the state of accustomed or habitual of anything in present time. The form of 'Be' are - Is, are, am,
was, were, will be, shall be. Here after 'Used To' Noun, Pronoun or Verb+Ing is used.
'Be Used To' का प्रयोग वर्तमान में किसी चीज का आदि होना या अभ्यस्त होना या अभ्यासी होना की स्थिति को व्यक्त करता है । 'Be' के रूप है - Is, are, am, was, were, will be, shall
be । यहाँ 'Used To' के बाद, संज्ञा, सर्वनाम या क्रिया का Ing रूप (Verb+Ing) आता है ।

| वह झूठ बोलने का आदी है । | He is used to lying. |
| हमें कॉफी की आदत है । | We are used to coffee. |
| वह इस शोर की अभ्यस्त है । | She is used to this noise. |
| उसे शाम की चाय के साथ TV सीरियल देखने की आदत है । | She is used to watch TV serials with evening tea. |
| मुझे पुराने मधुर गानो को सुनने की आदत है । | I am used to listening old melody songs. |
| हमें उसके आलोचनात्मक व्यवहार की आदत है । | We are used to her criticizing nature. |
| शान्तुर को रात भर कंप्यूटर पर काम करने की आदत है । | Shantur is used to working on computer all night. |
| मैं जल्द ही निवृत जीवन का आदी हो जाऊंगा । | I will soon be/get/become used to retired life. |
| मुझे एक दिन में इस मोबाइल की नयी विशेषताओ को इस्तेमाल करने की आदत हो गई । | I got used to using new features of this mobile in a day. |
| वह एक हफ़्ते में ऑटोमॅटिक वॉशिंग मशीन को चलाने की आदी हो गई है । | She has become used to operating fully automatic washing machine in a week. |
| तुम्हें जल्दी ही उनकी मजेदार टिप्पणियों को सुनने की आदत हो जायेगी । | You will soon be used to listening his funny comments. |
| दुल्हन को कुछ दिनों में बदबूदार दुर्गन्ध की आदत हो गई है । | The bride has got used to stinky smell in a few days. |
| तुम तुरंत ही इस विलासमय जिंदगी के आदी हो जाओगे । | You will soon get used to this luxurious life. |
| उसे अभी भी आधी रात को खाना खाने की आदत है । | He is still used to taking meal at midnight. |
| तुम अंग्रेजी जानते हो परंतु तुम्हें बोलने की आदत नही है । | You know English but you are not used to speaking it. |
| मैं जल्दी इस व्यायाम को करने का आदी हो जाऊंगा । | I will soon get used to doing this exercise. |
| मुझे ग्रीन चाय की आदत है । | I am used to taking green tea. |
| उसने अच्छा समय लिया परंतु अंततः उसे मोबाइल एप्लिकेशन्स चलाने की आदत हो गई है । | It took her a considerable time, but she is finally used to using mobile Applications. |
| मुझे कभी भी लंदन के एकदम ठंडे मौसम में रहने की आदत नही होगी । | I will never get used to the chilled weather of London. |

Sometimes 'Used To' can be replaced with 'Would'.
कभी कभी 'Used To' को 'Would' से बदला जा सकता है ।
