Can
'Can' is used to express physical capacity, capability and mental ability
'Can' का प्रयोग शारीरिक क्षमता, योग्यता एवं मानसिक योग्यता को व्यक्त करने के लिये किया जाता है ।
Example
| मैं एक स्थान पर बिना हिले डुले 4 घंटे खड़ा रह सकता हूँ । | I can stand for four hours without moving at one spot. |
| वह लगातार 6 घंटे पढ़ सकती है । | She can study for six hours at a stretch. |
| क्या तुम यह बक्सा उठा सकते हो ? | Can you lift this box? |
| कौन इस समस्या को हल कर सकता है? | Who can solve this problem? |
| मैं धाराप्रवाह अंग्रेजी बोल सकता हूँ । | I can speak English fluently. |
| वह 10 अलग भाषायें बोल सकती है । | She can speak 10 different languages. |
| मैं बिना चश्मे के अखबार नही पढ़ सकता हूँ । | I cannot read newspaper without glasses. |
| मैं नदी के आर-पार तैर सकता हूँ । | I can swim across the river. |
| मैं पहाड़ की चोटी पर चढ़ सकता हूँ । | I can climb on the hilltop. |
| तुम कौन सा वाध्य बजा सकते हो ? | Which instrument can you play? |
| मैं बांसुरी बजा सकता हूँ । | I can play flute. |
| वह बहुत कमजोर है । वह कमरे में भी नही चल सकती है । | She is very weak. She cannot even walk in the room. |
| क्या तुम मुझे एक हज़ार रुपये उधार दे सकते हो ? | Can you lend me one thousand rupees? |
'Can' is also used to seek or give permission and express possibility.
'Can' का प्रयोग अनुमति देना/लेना और सम्भावना व्यक्त करने के लिये भी किया जाता है ।
Example
| क्या मैं अपनी कार यहाँ खड़ी कर सकता हूँ ? | Can I park my car here? |
| तुम अपनी कार खड़ी कर सकते हो । | You can park your car. |
| वह घर पर हो सकता है । | He can be at home. |
| वह किसी भी क्षण आ सकता है । | He can come at any moment. |
| मैं कैसे तुम्हारी मदद कर सकता हूँ ? | How can I help you? |
| क्या यह समाचार सत्य हो सकता है ? | Can this news be true? |
| तुम उसके साथ जा सकती हो पर सात से पहले वापस आ जाना । | You can go with him but get back before six. |
| क्या मैं चल सकता हूँ ? | Can I walk? |
| क्या मैं बोल सकता हूँ ? | Can I speak? |
| क्या मैं कुछ समय आपके साथ रह सकता हूँ । | Can I stay with you for a while? |

'Can' is also used to express anger, impatience or astonishment of the speaker.
'Can' का प्रयोग वक्ता के क्रोध, अधीरपन एवं आश्चर्य को व्यक्त करने के लिये भी किया जाता है ।

| वह मेरा प्रस्ताव कैसे ठुकरा सकती है ? | How can she refuse my proposal? |
| वह मेरे विरुद्ध कैसे जा सकती है ? | How can she go against me? |
| उसके पिताजी क्या कर सकते है ? | What can her father do? |
| वह अपने आपको कहाँ छुपा सकता है ? | Where can he hide himself? |
| तुम April के पहले सप्ताह में कैसे छुट्टी ले सकते हो ? | How can you take leave during first week of April. |
| मैं सुनिश्चित करुंगा की वह जल्दी ना जा सके । | I will ensure that he cannot go early. |
| तुम अपने अधीनस्थ लोगो को देर से आने की इजाजत कैसे दे सकते हो ? | How can you allow your subordinates to come late? |
| वह दोषी है । कैसे कोई उसे बचा सकता है ? | He is guilty. How can anyone protect him? |
| क्या तुम शोर भरे वातावरण में सो सकते हो ? | Can you sleep in a noisy environment? |

Difference between May & Can And May not & Cannot
'May' is used to express that he is allowed or permitted for something whereas 'Can' is used to express that he has right or has
already agreed upon.
'May' का प्रयोग किया जाता है की उसे कुछ करने कि अनुमति है या इजाजत है जबकि 'Can' का प्रयोग किया जाता है की उसके पास अधिकार है या पहले सहमति हो चुकी है ।
'May not' is used to express improbability - means it appears that there is no possibility but still possibility exists. 'Cannot' is used to
express that there is no possibility at all or it is impossible. 'Cannot' is a one word and 'May' & 'not' are two different words.
'May not' असंभावना को व्यक्त करने के लिये प्रयोग किया जाता है-मतलब लगता है की वहाँ कोई सम्भावना नही है परंतु फिर भी सम्भावना है ।
Example
| तुम रंगभवन में प्रवेश कर सकते हो । (मैं तुम्हें इजाजत दे रहा हूँ परन्तु इसका मतलब यह नही की तुम्हारे पास रंगभवन में प्रवेश करने का अधिकार है) । | You may enter in the auditorium. (I am allowing you but it does not mean that you have a right to enter in the auditorium) |
| तुम रंगभवन में प्रवेश कर सकते हो । (तुम्हारे पास अधिकार है क्योंकी तुम्हारे पास टिकिट है) । | You can enter in the auditorium. (You have a right as you have ticket or organizers have already allowed you) |
| मैं अपने मकान पर दूसरी मंजिल बना सकता हूँ (मुझे इसकी इजाजत मिल सकती है-प्रतिबंध नही है) । | I may build top floor on my house. (I have permission to do so) |
| मैं अपने मकान पर दूसरी मंजिल बना सकता हूँ (मैने पहले ही नक्शे में पास करावा लिया था) । | I can build top floor on my house. (I had already got it approved in original Map) |
| यह खबर सच नही हो सकती है । (पूरी तरह सम्भावना से इंकार नही किया जा सकता है) । | This news may not be true. (possibility cannot be denied totally) |
| यह खबर सच नही हो सकती है ।( संभावना बिल्कुल नही है - यह असंभव है की खबर सच हो सकती है) । | This news cannot be true. (possibility is totally ruled out - it is impossible that this news can be true.) |
| सरकार यहाँ पैदल सड़क पार करने वाले पुल बनाने की योजना बना रही है परंतु यह दो साल में नही हो सकता है ।(संभावना है की यह दो साल में ना हो परंतु 100 प्रतिशत पक्का नही है) । | Govt is planning to make a foot over here, but it may not happen for another two years. (It is possible that it may not happen for another two years but not 100% sure) |
| सरकार यहाँ पैदल सड़क पार करने वाले पुल बनाने की योजना बना रही है परंतु यह दो साल में नही हो सकता है ।( यह सम्भव नही है और यह दो साल में पक्का नही होगा) । | Govt is planning to make a foot over here, but it cannot happen for another two years. (It is not possible and surely it will not happen for another two years) |
