Dare
'Dare' can be used both as a Modal Auxiliary Verb as well as Main Verb. Therefore it is also known as Semi Modal Verb.
'Dare' ko Modal sahaayak Kriyaa aur mukhya Kriyaa dono prakaar se prayog kar sakate haiN. Isiliye ise Semi Modal Verb bhee kahate haiN.
Use of 'Dare' as a Main Verb
As a Main Verb 'Dare' is used as an ordinary verb and has the same three forms of verb and used as per the rules of different tenses. Like in Present Indefinite Tense
the third person singular ends with an 's/es', and in interrogative and negative sentences 'Do/Does' is used. As a Main verb, 'Dare' is normally
followed by an infinitive 'To'. The basic meaning of 'Dare' is Have the courage to do something or to challenge.
मुख्य क्रिया के तौर पर 'Dare' का प्रयोग साधारण Verb की तरह होता है और इसकी तीन फ़ॉर्म होती है और विभिन्न टेन्स के नियमों के मुताबिक इनका प्रयोग होता है ।
जैसे प्रेज़ेंट इन्डेफिनेट टेन्स में third पर्सन सिंगुलर के साथ इसमे 's/es' लगता है और प्रश्नवाचक और नकारतमक वाक्यों में 'Do/Does' का प्रयोग होता है । मुख्य वर्ब के तौर पर 'Dare' के
बाद 'To' आता है । Dare का मूल अर्थ है किसी कार्य को करने का दुस्साहस या चुनौती देना ।
Example
| वह तुम्हारे सामने खड़े होने की हिम्मत रखता है । | He dares to stand in front of you. |
| उसकी अपने पति की अवज्ञा करने की हिम्मत नही हुई । | She did not dare to disobey her husband. |
| तुम उसके विपरीत एक शब्द कहने की हिम्मत नही करते हो । | You do not dare to say a single word against her. |
| क्या उसके साथ सम्बंधो को स्वीकार करने का उसने साहस दिखाया ? | Did she dare to accept her affairs with him? |
| वह नौकरी छोड़ने का साहस नही करेगा । | He will not dare to resign from the job. |
| क्या तुम अपने बॉस के खिलाफ शिकायत करने की हिम्मत करोगे ? | Will you dare to complain against your boss? |
| हमारे ऑफिस में कनिष्ठ अधिकारी किसी भी नोट(लेख) पर प्रतिकूल टिप्पणी करने की हिम्मत नही करते हैं । | In our office junior officers do not dare to put adverse remark on any note. |
| वरिष्ठ अधिकारी भी उसके कैबिन में बिना इजाजत प्रवेश करने की हिम्मत नही करते हैं । | Even senior officers do not dare to enter into his cabin without permission. |
| उसकी तिलचिट्टों को मारने की हिम्मत नही हुई । | She did not dare to kill the cockroaches. |
| अगर कमरे में एक छिपकली है तो वह वहां अकेले सोने की हिम्मत नही करती है । | If there is a lizard in the room, she does not dare to sleep there alone. |
| अव्यन वर्तिका को बिना हाथ लगाये गेट के आरपार बाइक चलाने को ललकारता है । | Avyan dares Vartika to ride her bike through the gate with no hands. |
| कनिका अव्यन को बड़े पत्थर को लांघने की चुनौती देती है । | Kanika dares Avyan to jump the big stone. |

Use of 'Dare' as a Modal Verb
As you know, Modals are helping verbs and are used with the Main Verbs. It remains same with Singular or Plural or any Person of the Subject.
Always first form of Main verb is used after Modals. Modals do not change their form (i.e. spelling / addition of 's', 'ing' or 'en') according to the tense of the sentence.
Infinitive 'To' comes only after two Modals - 'Used To' and 'Ought To'. Infinitive 'To' does not come after other Modals.
जैसा की आप जानते है, Modal सहायक क्रिया है और मुख्य वर्ब के साथ प्रयुत होते है । यह सिंगुलर या प्लुरल या सब्जेक्ट के किसी भी पर्सन के साथ समान रहते है । Modal के साथ हमेशा मुख्य वर्ब की Ist
फ़ॉर्म इस्तेमाल होती है । Modal की फ़ॉर्म वाक्य के टेन्स के अनुसार नही बदलती है (जैसे स्पेलिंग / 's/es' या 'ing' या 'en' का लगाना) । Infinitive 'To' केवल 2 Modal 'Used To'
और 'Ought To' के बाद आता है । 'To' बाकी Modal के बाद नही आता है ।
'Dare' as a Modal is used to express courage to do something or to challenge. It is normally used in Negative and Interrogative sentences only. As Modal Verb,
'Dare' has no past tense.
'Dare' Modal के तौर पर किसी कार्य को करने का दुस्साहस करना या हिम्मत करना या चुनौती देना व्यक्त करता है । यह आमतौर पर नकारतमक और प्रश्नात्मक वाक्यों में प्रयुक्त होता है । 'Modal'
के तौर पर 'Dare' का past tense नही होता है ।

| उसकी तुम्हारे सामने खड़े होने की हिम्मत नही है । | He dare not stand in front of you. |
| उसकी अपने पति की अवज्ञा करने की हिम्मत नही हुई । | She dared not disobey her husband. |
| अमित की साँप को मारने की हिम्मत नही हुई । | Amit dared not kill the snake. |
| क्या उसकी मेरे सामने ऐसा कहने की हिम्मत है ? | Dare she say so in front of me? |
| मेरी उसकी दयनीय दशा देखने की हिम्मत नही है । | I dare not see her pity condition. |
| मेरी ऐसा कठोर कदम उठाने की हिम्मत नही है । | I dare not take such a drastic step. |
| उसके अकेले अंधेरे में रसोई जाने की हिम्मत नही हुई । | She dared not go to kitchen alone in dark. |
| सीमा की मुझसे प्यार इजहार करने की हिम्मत नही हुई । | Seema dared not express her love to me. |
| सरदाना की न्यायाधीश के सामने झूठ बोलने की हिम्मत नही है । | Sardana dare not speak lie before the Magistrate. |
| क्या न्यायाधीश की अपराधी के पक्ष में ऑर्डर करने की हिम्मत है ? | Dare the Magistrate issue order in favour of the culprit? |
| एमर्जेन्सी के दौरान, लोगों की शासन के विरुद्ध एक भी शब्द बोलने की हिम्मत नही थी । | During emergency, people dared not speak even a word against the administration. |
| उसकी अपनी माँ से और रूपयों को मांगने की हिम्मत नही हुई । | She dared not ask her mother for more money. |
| उनमें उसकी मर्जी के विपरीत कुछ भी करने का साहस नही है । | They dare not do anything against her wish. |
| मुझमें अपनी पत्नी से कुछ भी छिपाने की हिम्मत नही है । | I dare not hide anything from my wife. |
| मुझमें किसीकी आँखों में आंसू देखने की हिम्मत नही है । | I dare not see tears in anyone's eyes. |
'How Dare' is used to express surprise, astonishment, shock or anger of the speaker.
'How Dare' का प्रयोग वक्ता का आश्चर्य, हैरत, सदमा या गुस्से को व्यक्त करने के लिये किया जाता है ।
Example
| तुम्हारी हिम्मत कैसे हुई ? तुम्हारे हाथ एकदम से हटाओ! (तुम ऐसे धृष्ट कैसे हो सकते हो?) | How dare you? Take your hands off me at once! (How can you be so bold?) |
| उसकी तुमसे ऐसा कहने की हिम्मत कैसे हुई ? (उसकी गुस्ताखी पर मुझे आश्चर्य है ।) | How dare he say so to you? (I wonder at such audacity) |
| तुम्हारी अपने पिताजी के समक्ष इस प्रकार बोलने की हिम्मत कैसे हुई ? | How dare you speak like this before your father? |
| उसकी समय से पहले बिना मेरी इजाजत के ऑफिस छोड़ ने की हिम्मत कैसे हुई ? | How dare she leave office before time without my permission? |
| उसकी मेरी सत्यनिष्ठा पर संदेह करने की हिम्मत कैसे हुई ? | How dare he doubt my integrity? |
| उसकी मुझ पर झूठ बोलने का आरोप लगाने कि हिम्मत कैसे हुई ? | How dare he accuse me of lying? |
| तुम्हारी हिम्मत कैसे हुई हमारे व्यक्तिगत वार्तालाप सुनने की ? | How dare you listen our private conversation? |
| उसकी मेरे सामने बैठने की हिम्मत कैसे हुई ? | How dare he sit in front of me? |
| विधार्थियों की अपने प्रिन्सिपल की उपस्थिति में चिल्लाने की हिम्मत कैसे हुई । | How dare students shout in the presence of their Principal? |
| अव्यन की नदी पार करने की हिम्मत कैसे हुई ? | How dare Avyan cross the stream? |

'Dare Say / Daresay' is used to express the meaning probably or suppose.
'Dare Say / Daresay' का प्रयोग अर्थ - शायद, कदाचित या अनुमान को व्यक्त करने के लिये किया जाता है ।
Example
| शायद यह सब ठीक हो जायेगा । | I dare say, it will be alright. |
| शायद वह मेरा प्रस्ताव स्वीकार कर ले । | I dare say, she may accept my proposal. |
| शायद तुम उसकी उपलब्धिओं से आश्चर्यचकित हो जाओ । | I dare say, you will be surprised to see her achievements. |
| शायद कोर्ट तुम्हारे पक्ष में ऑर्डर कर दे । | I dare say, the court may issue order in our favour. |
| शायद यह काम आपके सपनो को नष्ट कर दे । | I dare say, this action may destroy your dreams. |
| शायद शाम को बरसात हो । | I dare say, it may rain in the evening. |
| शायद वह बाद में आये । | I dare say, she may come later. |
| शायद उसने तलाक के लिये आवेदन कर दिया है । | I dare say, she has applied for divorce. |
| शायद वह मेरे लिये एक गुलाब खरीदे । | I dare say, she will buy a rose for me. |
| शायद म़ैं ज्यादातर लड़कियों के लिये आदर्श आदमी हूँ । | I dare say, I am the ideal man for most of the girls. |
| शायद तुम ठीक/सही हो । | I dare say, you are right. |
