Should And Ought To
'Should' and 'Ought to' can be used with little difference in meaning when we express about Duty, Moral obligation, Advice and
Probability. In negative sentence 'Not' comes between 'Ought' and 'To' ( e.g. - Ought not to)
'Should' और 'Ought To' लगभग समान अर्थ में प्रयोग कर सकते है जब हम कर्तव्य, नैतिक दायित्व, सलाह और संभावना को व्यक्त करते हैं । नकारात्मक वाक्य में 'not' आता है 'Ought' और 'To'
के बीच में (e.g. - Ought not To) ।
Example
| हमें अपने बड़ों का आदर करना चाहिये । (कर्तव्य) | We should respect our elders. (Duty) |
| हमें अपने बड़ों का आदर करना चाहिये । (कर्तव्य) | We ought to respect our elders. (Duty) |
| तुम्हें अपनी पुरानी कार बदल लेनी चाहिये । (सलाह) | You ought to change your old car. (Advice) |
| तुम्हें अपनी पुरानी कार बदल लेनी चाहिये । (सलाह) | You should change your old car. (Advice) |
| हमें अपने पड़ोसियों से प्यार करना चाहिये । (सलाह) | We should love our neighbours. (Advice) |
| हमें अपने पड़ोसियों से प्यार करना चाहिये । (सलाह) | We ought to love our neighbours. (Advice) |
| यह सूप गरम नही है । तुम्हें इसे वापस करना चाहिये । (सलाह) | This soup is not hot. You should send it back. (Advice) |

| हमें जरूरतमंदों की मदद करनी चाहिये । (नैतिक दायित्व) | We ought to help needy persons. (Moral obligation) |

| तुम चाकू ढूंढ रहे हो । यह किचन की दराज में होना चाहिये । (संभावना) | You are looking for a knife. It should be in the kitchen drawer. (Probability) |

| मुझे अपने बूढ़े माता-पिता को सर्वश्रेष्ठ स्वास्थ्य सुविधा मुहय्या करानी चाहिये । (नैतिक दायित्व) | I should provide the best medical facilities to my old parents. (Moral obligation) |

| तुम्हें अपने माता-पिता के साथ ऐसा बर्ताव नही करना चाहिये । (दायित्व ना निभाने पर सलाह) | You should not behave like this with your parents. (Advice for non compliance of duty) |
| तुम्हें अपने माता-पिता के साथ ऐसा बर्ताव नही करना चाहिये । (दायित्व ना निभाने पर सलाह) | You ought not to behave like this with your parents. (Advice for non compliance of duty) |
| उसे रोज नही पीनी चाहिये । | He should not drink daily. |
| उसे रोज नही पीनी चाहिये । | He ought not to drink daily. |

When we give Advice (only Advice) with 'I', 'Should' or 'Would' is used but 'Ought to' is not used. e.g. I should go now. I should warn him. I should not
sanction her leave.
जब हम 'I - मैं' के साथ सलाह (केवल सलाह) का वाक्य बनाते है तब 'Should' या 'Would' का प्रयोग होता है परंतु 'Ought to' का प्रयोग नही होता । जैसे - मुझे अब जाना चाहिये । मुझे उसे चेतावनी देनी चाहिये ।
मुझे उसकी छुट्टी मंजूर नही करनी चाहिये ।
We use 'Should' and 'Ought to' in Perfect Tense to express about past action which has not happened in the way as it should have
been happened.
पर्फेक्ट टेन्स में 'Should' और 'Ought to' का प्रयोग इस तथ्य को बताने के लिया किया जाता है की कार्य उस प्रकार संपन्न नही किया गया जिस प्रकार किया जाना चाहिये था ।

| उसे मेरी कार लेने से पहले मेरी इजाजत माँगनी चाहिये थी । (परंतु उसने नही मांगी) | He should have sought my permission before he took my car. (But he didn't seek permission) |
| उसे मेरी कार लेने से पहले मेरी इजाजत माँगनी चाहिये थी । (परंतु उसने नही मांगी) | He ought to have sought my permission before he took my car. (But he didn't seek permission) |
| अव्यन को अब तक धाराप्रवाह बोलना शुरू कर देना चाहिये था । (परंतु उसने नही किया) | Avyan should have started speaking fluently by now. (But he didn't start) |

| उनको स्थानीय नेता को भी आमंत्रित करना चाहिये था । (परंतु उन्होंने नही किया) | They should have invited the local leader also. (But they didn't) |

| इस संकटकाल में तुम्हें उसके साथ रहना चाहिये था । (परंतु तुम नही रुके) | You should have stayed with her at this juncture. (But he didn't stay) |
| इस संकटकाल में तुम्हें उसके साथ रहना चाहिये था । (परंतु तुम नही रुके) | You ought to have stayed with her at this juncture. (But he didn't stay) |
| मुझे अपनी पत्नी की देखभाल उसकी गर्भावस्था के दौरान करनी चाहिये थी । (परंतु मैने नही की) | I should have taken care of my wife during her pregnancy. (But I didn't care) |
| मुझे अपनी पत्नी की देखभाल उसकी गर्भावस्था के दौरान करनी चाहिये थी । (परंतु मैने नही की) | I ought to have taken care of my wife during her pregnancy. (But I didn't care) |
| हमें उसकी मित्र-मंडली की जांच-पड़ताल बहुत समय पहले करनी चाहिये थी । (परंतु हमने नही की) | We should have checked his friend circle long time ago. (But we didn't check) |

| तुम्हें अब तक अपना सारा कोर्स दोहरा लेना चाहिये था । (परंतु तुमने नही किया) | You should have revised your complete course by now. (But you didn't) |
| तुम्हें अब तक अपना सारा कोर्स दोहरा लेना चाहिये था । (परंतु तुमने नही किया) | You ought to have revised your complete course by now. (But you didn't) |
'Should' with 'If clause' is used to express a difficult possibility. 'Should' is also a past tense of 'shall'.
'If clause' के साथ 'Should' का प्रयोग मुश्किल संभावना को व्यक्त करने के लिये किया जाता है । 'Shall' का past tense 'Should' है ।

| अगर तुम्हें यहाँ दवाई की दुकान ढूंढने की दिक्कत हो तो मुझे फोन कर लेना । | If you should have any difficulty in finding medical shop, please ring me up. |
| अगर तुम्हें वहां नारियल ना मिले, मुझे तुरंत फोन कर देना । | If you should not get coconut there, please inform me immediately. |
| अगर तुम्हें लंदन में कुछ भी शाकाहारी खाना ना मिले तो शान्तुर से संपर्क करना । | If you should not get any vegetarian food in London, please contact Shantur. |
| अगर तुम्हें लंदन में कुछ भी शाकाहारी खाना ना मिले तो शान्तुर से संपर्क करना । | Should you not get any vegetarian food in London, please contact Shantur. |
| अगर अंगूठी तुम्हारी पसंद की ना हो तो तुम बिना अड़चन के वापस कर सकती हो । | Should the ring is not of your choice, you can return without any hitch. |
| यदि वह सफल हो गया तो हमें फाइव स्टार होटेल में पार्टी देगा । | Should he succeed, he would give us a party in five star hotel. |
| मैने कहा, "मैं सभी शुभ दिवसों पर जल्दी उठूंगा । >>> मैने कहा की मैं सभी शुभ दिवसो पर जल्दी उठूंगा । | I said, "I shall get up early on all the auspicious days". >>> I told that I should get up early on all the auspicious days. |

In Conditional sentence 'Should' is always used with 'Lest'. And to express a purpose also 'Should' is used as probability (like May/Might)
Conditional senence में 'Lest' के साथ हमेशा 'Should' का प्रयोग होता है । और किसी उद्देश्य को व्यक्त करने के लिये भी 'Should' का प्रयोग संभावना के तौर पर (May/Might की तरह)
किया जाता है

| मेहनत करो ऐसा ना हो की तुम फेल हो जाओ | Work hard less you should fail. |
| उसको तुरंत फोन करो ऐसा ना हो की वह अपने मायके चली जाये । | Ring up her immediately lest she should go to her maternal home. |
| गाड़ी तेज चलाओ ऐसा ना हो की फ्लाइट छूट जाये । | Drive fast lest you should miss the flight. |
| मैने गाड़ी तेज चलाई ताकि वह समय से पहले एयरपोर्ट पहुंच जाये । | I drove fast so that he should reach the airport before time. |
| मैने उस पर दबाव डाला की उसे फोन करे ताकि वह समझौता कर ले । | I pressurised him to ring up her so that he should compromise. |
| मैने हमेशा उसके मित्रों की जांच-पड़ताल की ताकि उसकी पढ़ाई ना खराब हो । | I always checked her friends so that she should not spoil her study. |
The meaning of 'Should' and 'Ought to' is almost same but for issuing Notices, 'Should' is used instead of 'Ought to'
'Should' और 'Ought तो' का अर्थ लगभग समान है परंतु सूचना/नोटीस के लिये 'Ought to' के बजाये 'Should' का प्रयोग होता है ।
Example
| फ्लैट मालिक रविवार को सुबह 11 बजे सोसाइटी हॉल में इकट्ठे हो । | Flat owners should assemble at 11 am on Sunday in the Society hall. |
| कर्मचारी समय से पहले दफ्तर ना छोड़ें । | Workers should not leave the office before time. |
| प्रत्येक कर्मचारी कार्यशाला में भाग लें । | Every employee should participate in the workshop. |
| महिला कर्मचारी करवा चौथ के दिन अच्छा हो की साड़ी पहने । (प्राथमिकता दें) | Women employees should preferably wear saaree on the day of Karawaa Chauth. |
