Conditional Sentences
In Conditional Sentences, one part states about certain conditions, and another main part describes about
completion or non completion of the condition. In grammatical words, conditional sentences have two clauses:
(1) 'IF Clause' -which states about condition and
(2) 'Main / Principal Clause' -which describes
completion or non completion of the condition.
कंड़ीशनल वाक्यों में एक भाग कंड़ीशन (शर्त) को व्यक्त करता है और दूसरा भाग उस शर्त के पूरा होने या ना होने को व्यक्त करता है ।
ग्रांमर के शब्दों में - कंड़ीशनल वाक्यों में सामान्यता दो क्लॉज़ होती है (1) 'If Clause' - जो कंड़ीशन (शर्त) को व्यक्त करती है और (2) 'Main / Principal Clause' - जो
शर्त के पूरा होने या ना होने के बारे में बताती है ।
Conditional sentences can be described in mainly three parts:
1. When 'If clause' is in Present tense
2. When 'If Clause' is in Past tense
3 When 'If Clause' is in Future tense.
Conditional वाक्यों को मुख्य रूप से तीन भागो में बांटा जा सकता है:
1. जब 'If clause' वर्तमान काल में हो
2. जब 'If Clause' भूत काल में हो
3' 3. जब 'If Clause' भविष्य काल में हो
'If Clause' in Present Tense or Future Tense
The part of sentence which states condition i.e. 'If Clause' is translated in Present Tense whether it is of Present Tense or Future Tense. Principal clause can be either of
present or future. In such Conditional sentences, Future Tense is used only once and that is in Principal clause.
हिन्दी में वाक्य का जो भाग कंड़ीशन प्रकट करें वह चाहे प्रेज़ेंट टेन्स में हो अथवा फ्यूचर टेन्स में, इंग्लिश में उसे प्रेज़ेंट टेन्स में ही बनाया जाता है । मुख्य भाग फ्यूचर या प्रेज़ेंट में से कोई भी हो सकता है । इस प्रकार के कंड़ीशनल वाक्यों में
दो बार फ्यूचर टेन्स का प्रयोग नही होता है ।
Examples
| यदि तुम ऑफिस जाओ तो मेरी तन्खवाह ले लेना । | If you go to office, please take my salary. |
| यदि आप पेट्रोल को खुले में रखो तो यह उड़ जाता है । | If you keep petrol in open, it evaporates. |
| यदि किसी भी चीज की कमी होती है तो उसकी कीमत बढ़ जाती है । | If there is shortage of anything, its price goes up. |
| यदि बरसात आती है तो वह घर पर ही रहेगा । | If it rains, he will remain at home. |
| यदि तुम जल्दी करोगे तो गाड़ी पकड़ लोगे । | If you make haste, you will catch the train. |
| यदि तुम लगातार व्यायाम करते हो तो अपने आपको तंदरुस्त रखते हो । | If you do exercise regularly, you keep yourself fit. |
| अगर धुंध बढ़ती है तो उड़ाने लेट होती है । | If fog gets thicker, flights get late. |
| यदि तुम महिमा को ढूंढ रहे हो तुम्हें वह अपनी दादी के पास मिल सकती है । | If you are looking for Mahima, you may find her with her Daadi. |
| यदि तुम कार खरीदने जा रहे हो तो मैं सलाह दूंगा की लम्बी कार मत खरीदना । | If you are going to buy a car, I will suggest not to buy a Sedan car. |
| इस वक्त यदि तुम पैदल जाओगे तो जल्दी पहुंच जाओगे । | At this time if you go on foot, you will reach early. |
| यदि आपने खाना खा लिया है तो ड्राइवर आपको पिक कर लेगा । | If you have finished lunch, driver will pick you up. |
| यदि अव्यन ने होमवर्क पूरा कर लिया है, मैं उसे पार्क में खेलने जाने की इजाजत दे दूंगा । | If Avynay have completed homework fully, I will allow him to go to play in the garden. |
| यदि आपने अक्षरधाम नही देखा है तो हम वहां जायेंगे । | If you have not seen the AkShardhaam, we would go there. |

'If Clause' in Past Tense
'If Clause' is in Past Tense using auxiliary verb 'Had' (I had an umbrella), and Main Clause describes about something which was to happen or expected to happen but has not happened, 'Would'
is used in Principal Clause.
'If Clause' भूत काल में 'auxiliary verb 'Had' (मेरे पास छतरी थी) से बना हो और 'Main Clause' यह प्रकट करें की कोई बात जो होनी चाहिये थी या जिसके होने की आशा थी,
वह नही हुई, तब Principal Clause में 'Would' का प्रयोग करते है ।
Examples
| यदि मेरे पास कार होती तो तुम्हें दे देता (परंतु मेरे पास कार नही है) । | If I had a car, I would lend it to you (But I have not a car). |
| यदि पिता जी के पास पैसे होते तो वह मुझे जरूर देते (परंतु पिता जी के पास पैसे नही है) । | If papa had money, he would surely give to me (But paapaa has not money). |
| यदि चोर उनके कब्जे में होता तो वे मुझे जरूर बता देते (परन्तु चोर उनके कब्जे में नही है) । | If they had thief in their possession, they would surely inform me (But the thief is not in their possession). |
'If Clause' is in Past Indefinite and Main Clause is also in Past Indefinite. Such sentences indicate that second action has happend habitually/automatically. Ist part -If + Past Indefinite Tense and
Main part is also in Past Indefinite Tense
'If Class' past Indefinite में हो और मुख्य भाग भी past Indefinite में हो । ऐसे वाक्य एक के बाद तुरन्त दूसरा कार्य habitually/automatically-आदतन/अपने-आप
होने को व्यक्त करते हैं । पहले भाग में If + past Indefinite Tense और मुख्य भाग में भी past Indefinite Tense का प्रयोग करते है ।
Examples
| यदि किसी ने उसे छेड़ा, उसने उसे मार दिया । | If anybody teased him, he killed him. |
| यदि टीचर ने उसे टोका तो वह भागा । | If teacher interrupted him he ran. |
| यदि तुमने बच्चो को लंदन में मारा, बच्चे पुलिस के पास गए । | If you beat children in London, children went to police. |
'If Clause' is in Past Indefinite and Main Clause expresses about future action. In such sentences, past tense of 'If Clause' is not actual past time or past action. 'If Clause' - If + Past Indefinite
Tense and Main Clause - ..Would + Verb (Ist Form) used for translating sentence.
'If Class' past Indefinite में हो और Main Clause फ्यूचर एक्शन को दर्शाये । ऐसे वाक्यों में 'If Clause' में वास्तविक भूत काल का समय या क्रिया (past action)
को सूचित नही करते । 'If Clause' में If + past Indefinite Tense और मुख्य भाग में ..Would + Verb (Ist form) का प्रयोग करते हैं ।
Examples
| यदि उसने मेरा नाम लिया तो मैं उसे नही छोड़ूंगा (परन्तु वह मेरा नाम लेने का प्रयास नही करेगा) । | If he took my name, I would not leave him (But I don’t expect that he will try to take my name). |
| यदि वह लड़का मेरे कमरे में आया तो मैं ज़ोर से चिल्लाऊंगी । | If that boy came into my room, I would shout loudly. |
| यदि उसने इस उम्र में बाल काले रंगे तो प्रत्येक उस पर हंसेगा । | If he dyed his hair black at this age everyone would laugh at him |
| यदि तुमने मेरे शादी का प्रस्ताव आज स्वीकार नही किया तो मैं जीवन भर शादी नही करूंगा । | If you did not accept my proposal of marriage today, I would not marry whole life. |

'If Clause' is in Past Perfect Tense. In such sentences, If + Past Perfect Tense is also used in 'If Clause' and ..Would have + Verb (3rd Form) is used in Principal Clause.
'If Clause' Past Perfect Tense में हो । ऐसे वाक्यों में If + Past Perfect Tense का प्रयोग 'If Clause' में और ..Would have + Verb (3rd Form) का प्रयोग मुख्य Clause में होता है ।
Examples
| यदि मैनें अपने आप को नियन्त्रित नही किया होता तो मैं उसे थप्पड़ मार देता । | If I had not controlled myself, I would have slapped him. |
| यदि वे मुझे बुलाते तो मैं शादी में जरूर जाता । | If they had invited me, I would have definitely attended the marriage. |
| यदि उसने मुझे धोखा देने का प्रयास किया होता तो मैं उसे बर्खास्त कर देता । | If he had tried to cheat me I would have fired him. |
| यदि हमारे राजाओ ने कुछ दूरदर्शिता दिखाई होती तो हम दुनिया को अपने प्रभुत्व में ले लेते । | If our kings had shown some farsightedness, we would have taken the world in our domination. |
| अगर मुझे वह सूचना पहले मिल गई होती तो मैं उसे समुंद्र किनारे कभी नही जाने देता । | If I had received that news earlier, I would have never allowed him to go to sea shore. |
In the above type of sentences, 'If + Subject + Had....' in 'If Clause' can be replaced by 'Had + Subject....'. The meaning of both remains same.
ऊपर वाले वाक्यों में 'If Clause' में 'If + Subject + Had ....' के स्थान पर 'Had + Subject ....' का भी प्रयोग किया जाता है । दोनो का अर्थ समान होता है ।
